## Overview
A show is a container that can hold [Seasons](https://pbs-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MM/pages/5343800), [Specials](https://pbs-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MM/pages/5343806), [Collections](https://pbs-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MM/pages/5343803), and [Extras](https://pbs-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MM/pages/5344064). Shows that you have access to can be viewed from the Shows section of the console. If you maintain several shows, consider "favoriting" them for faster access. ## How to access Shows on PBS.org
Shows can be accessed by clicking Shows in the top navigation menu on [PBS.org website](https://www.pbs.org/).

## How to add a Show
Creating a show in Media Manager is available to some station content contributors, based on [roles and permissions](https://docs.pbs.org/space/MM/5343868/Roles+and+Permissions). The following table illustrates the fields that are required to create a show.
You do not need to include information for the fields where the value is "Yes" and there is a default setting, unless you do not want the default value.

| TMS ID | Unique Gracenote identifier that is matched to an associated ID in the [TV Schedules Service (TVSS) API](https://docs.pbs.org/space/tvsapi/3964930/TV+Schedules+Service+(TVSS)+API). This identifier creates a link between Media Manager and TVSS.
(1) **TMS ID fields:**
> Macro (nested-table)
(2) **Existing TMS ID:** The TMS ID that was manually entered and already existed in Media Manager. This only displays if there was an existing TMS ID in Media Manager.
(3)** TVSS Details:** Displays the show details that are pulled from TVSS when a successful match has been made between the TMS ID and TVSS.

| Private | When a show is set to Private, neither the show, nor its child video assets, are available on any platforms. This feature is useful in a case where you are working on a show and do not want it be visible to anyone yet. Toggle the Private button so that it displays ON to make your show private.
The Private setting affects all child assets of the Show. For instance, if a public show is subsequently made private, all child assets will be private as well. You can confirm this by looking at the Platform setting for an individual video asset.

## How to edit a Show
When first logging in to the Media Manager console, you are automatically directed to your Shows page. All shows you have access to are displayed on this page.
- If you have a long list of shows, use the** search feature** in the upper right side of the screen to search by show name (Figure 1.1).
- The number of [Collections](https://docs.pbs.org/space/MM/5343803/Collections) associated with the show are listed (Figure 1.2).
- The number of [Seasons](https://pbs-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MM/pages/5343800) within the show are listed (Figure 1.3).
- The number of [Specials](https://pbs-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MM/pages/5343806) associated with the show are listed (Figure 1.4).
- The audiences who have access to view the show are displayed (Figure 1.5).
- The Private column displays whether or not a show is visible on platforms (Figure 1.6). [Learn more about availability](https://docs.pbs.org/space/MM/5343796/Shows#Availability)
- The date and time that the show was last modified displays in the Last Modified column (Figure 1.7).
- Click the** show title **to begin editing (Figure 1.8).

## How to favorite a Show
Displaying only the shows that you frequently access can save a lot of time when you're working in the console. Use the Favorite feature to designate specific shows as Favorites and retrieve them more quickly. [Learn more about this feature](https://docs.pbs.org/space/MM/5346954/How+to+Favorite+Shows)
## Core Data
Adding as much Core data as possible is very important when it comes to the discovery of your video. The more details you add about your video, the easier viewers will be able to find it online.
Editors can modify specific show fields, as follows:
- In the Short Description textbox, type a **short description containing no more than 100 characters, including spaces **(Figure 1.1). This appears in search results when a user searches for your show.
- In the Long Description textbox, type a **long description containing no more than 400 characters, including spaces** (Figure 1.2). This appears on your video asset page and should providers viewers with a little more information about your show.
- Click the **Genre dropdown menu** and click the **genre** with which your show should be associated (Figure 1.3).

- Click the **Descending Episode Order toggle** to arrange the order in which your episodes display (Figure 2.1).
- **Descending **- Episodes are displayed from most recent to oldest. ***This is selected by default.***
- **Ascending **- Episodes are displayed from oldest to most recent.

- Click the **Require Content Rating toggle** so that it displays OFF if you do not wish to require a content rating for your show's video assets and extras (Figure 2.2). - Click the** Content Rating dropdown menu** to select a default [content rating](/wiki/download/attachments/5343796/ratings.pdf?version=2&modificationDate=1505143545138&cacheVersion=1&api=v2) to be applied to newly-created child assets. When this setting is updated, it will apply to (and can be overridden on) all child assets which are subsequently created (Figure 2.3). Setting changes will not apply to existing assets, or to existing assets which are re-saved. This setting can be overridden at the asset level.
- Click the** Allow Viral Player Embed toggle** so that it displays OFF if you want to prevent your show's videos from being embedded in third-party websites (Figure 2.4).
- When finished, click **Save** (Figure 2.5).

- associate your show with various social media outlets (Example: [https://www.facebook.com/PBSNature/](https://www.facebook.com/PBSNature/)).
- create purchase links so that people can purchase your show on different platforms (Example: Apple, Amazon)
- assign a URL to the *Visit The Official Website* link that goes to your show's website (this image and link beneath the image are programmed in the [PBS.org Show Official Website](https://docs.pbs.org/x/NgTl) collection in [Curate](https://docs.pbs.org/space/CB/5341186/Curate).

How to add links:
- Click the** Additional Data tab** (Figure 1.1).
- Click the **Type dropdown menu** and click the **type of link** you want to add (e.g.: social media, official website) (Figure 1.2).
- In each corresponding URL textbox, type the **full URL **(Figure 1.3).
- Click the blue **Add More button** to add additional rows (Figure 1.4).
- In the Hashtag textbox, type the** hashtag associated with your show** (Figure 1.5). This is the official hashtag for your show; the hashtag that will curate your show's tweets.

### Sponsorship

The Sponsorship section controls the behavior of DFP pre- and mid-roll sponsorships and funder messaging.
- Exclude from DFP determines if your sponsorship will display in associated assets (Figure 3.1). This information is set by your site admin and it cannot be edited by any other role.
- In the Funder Message textbox, type any **acknowledgements associated with your show** (Figure 3.2). Maximum length: 500 characters, including spaces.

### Closed Captions
The Closed Captions section controls the behavior of closed captioning at the show level. It determines if closed captioning files are required for full length and/or previews and clips. This information is set by your site admin and it cannot be edited by any other role. When a toggle is clicked and turned to the OFF position (Figure 4.1), you must include a justification for why captions are not required for that format (Figure 4.2).

### Miscellaneous
- Click the **Auto Publish Assets toggle** so that it displays **ON** to automatically publish all assets created for your show (Figure 5.1). The assets must have all required fields complete in order for this feature to work properly. Assets that are already published are not affected by this setting. Keep this toggle OFF if you do not want to automatically publish show assets going forward.
- In the Featured Preview Content ID textbox, paste the **CID of the asset** you want to use as your featured preview asset (Figure 5.2). [Learn more about this feature](https://docs.pbs.org/space/MM/5343796/Shows#Featured-Preview-Content-ID)
- Click the **Language dropdown menu** and select the **main language** in which your show is presented (Figure 5.3). The list of available languages is continually expanding. If you do not see your preferred language, please [submit a support ticket](https://digitalsupport.pbs.org/support/tickets/new).
- Click the **Allow Topics toggle** to assign topics to your show (Figure 5.5). If Topics are not allowed at the show level, topics will be disabled on all assets associated with the show. Most assets do not use topics.

- When finished, click **Save **located on the bottom right side of the page (Figure 6).

### Featured Preview Content ID
Learn how to add the Featured Preview Content ID
- From the Shows page in Media Manager, click the **Extras tab** (Figure 1.1).
- Click the** name of the video asset **that you want to use as the feature preview (Figure 1.2).

- Copy the **PBS Content ID** (Figure 2.1).
- Be sure the Object Type displays *Preview *(Figure 2.2).
- Click the** show name** in the breadcrumbs at the top of the page to return to the show page (Figure 2.3).

- Click the **Additional Data tab** (Figure 3).

- Scroll to the *Miscellaneous* section and in the Featured Preview Content ID textbox, paste the **PBS Content ID **you copied in Figure 2 (Figure 4).

- Once the code is pasted, the asset details surface immediately (Figure 5). If the asset needs to be modified, open the asset and make the changes.
- Data includes the asset title, the franchise to which the asset belongs, the show title, the asset's location in Media Manager, the asset's availability and object type, and whether or not the asset is published. Do not use an unpublished asset.
- Save the page.

- After you've saved the page, go back to the asset and the Featured Preview assignment displays in the asset's breadcrumbs at the top of the page (Figure 6).

The Featured Preview Content ID displays as the preview video that automatically plays at the top of the Show page on [PBS.org](http://pbs.org/). Use an asset that is representative of your show and would make users want to view more.
This feature is intended for use with previews, not full length assets or clips.
**Important notes:**
- This field is optional and is empty by default.
- If the Featured Preview Content ID field is left blank, the show's Background image from Media Manager displays. If the show does not have a Background image, the mezzanine 16:9 image of the full-length asset that the *[Watch Now](https://docs.pbs.org/space/MM/584417283/How+to+Create+an+Official+Show+Preview#Program-the--Watch-Now--button)*[ button](https://docs.pbs.org/space/MM/584417283/How+to+Create+an+Official+Show+Preview#Program-the--Watch-Now--button) goes to is used (following the show's ascending/descending logic)
- The video asset ***must ***belong to the same show. You cannot add the PBS Content ID (CID) from an asset that belongs to a different show.
- It is recommended that you use a preview, ***not ***a full length asset or clip.
- Select a video that is **less than 3 minutes** long to avoid a pre-roll ad appearing. If you need an exception to this guideline, please [submit a support ticket](https://digitalsupport.pbs.org/support/tickets/new).
- Do not use unpublished assets. An unpublished asset will not display and the fallback logic (explained in the second bullet point above) will be activated.
- Your Featured Preview selection can be changed or removed at any time.
The following image illustrates how a user on PBS.org accesses the asset you've add to the Featured Preview Content ID field.
The asset automatically plays on the right hand side when the user opens the show page.

The images section holds all of your show images, including poster images and logos. Only one type of each image is allowed per show. Trying to add two of the same type of image will result in an error.

- Click the** blue Choose button** to browse your computer files for an image (Figure 1).

- After you've found the image you want to use and have added it, click the** Select Profile dropdown menu** and click the **profile** that is associated with your image (Figure 2). Only one of each profile is allowed per show.

Repeat the same steps for the rest of your show images.
## Availability
> ⚠️ **Assets associated with this show can have their own unique availability settings designated at the ****[asset level](https://docs.pbs.org/display/MM/Assets)****. Individual assets can only be made more restrictive, not less restrictive.**
### Privacy and Platform Management
The Privacy and Platform management section provides the option to make your show visible to or hidden from selected platforms.
Use ***Private *****toggle** to hide the show from all platforms immediately or use the ***Make Private in Future *****field** to set a future date for the show to become private. This is an optional feature that can be activated and deactivated at any time. **Note that the video availability window dates are not modified when a show becomes private** (or is made non-private); the objects are simply suppressed (or restored) in the MM API.
#### How to schedule privacy and platforms
- Click the **toggle **next to *Private *to *immediately *hide your show* and *prevent it from displaying on selected platforms (Figure 1.1).
- When the toggle displays **ON**, the show and all its child pages are **not** visible on platforms.
- When the toggle displays **OFF**, the show is visible on all assigned platforms. Keep in mind that some assets may have [custom platform settings](https://docs.pbs.org/space/MM/5343793/Assets#Platform-Management).
- To schedule your show to become private *on a specific date in the future*, click the ***Make Private in Future*** textbox and select a date on the calendar (Figure 1.2). **The show becomes private** **at 12:01am ET on the scheduled day**.
- The Platforms section displays the platforms on which your show may be viewed (Figure 1.3). **Platforms are assigned by PBS and can be requested by ****[submitting a support ticket](https://digitalsupport.pbs.org/support/tickets/new)****.**

- When finished, scroll to the bottom of the page and click **Save **(Figure 2).

Once you’ve assigned a Make Private in Future date and saved the page, the date displays and Private toggle remains in the OFF position (Figure 3). Once the assigned date arrives, the toggle will switch to ON at 12:01am and the show is removed from displaying on any platforms.

### Geo and Passport Availability
The Availability tab regulates how content is available to viewers. Access to videos is controlled by a viewer's Passport status ([learn more about Passport](https://pbs-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/PLUS/pages/5505086)) and their geo location.

- Content types are broken into three sections (full length, previews, clips) and are specified at the top of each section (Figure 1.1). You can assign viewing permissions for each type of content.
- Viewer types are listed on the left side of the page (Figure 1.2).
- Click the **Geo Availability dropdown menu** to assign the countries in which the video content for the show should be available (Figure 1.3). All assets that are part of this show inherit the geo restrictions that are assigned here. You can assign different geo restrictions to each individual asset at the [asset level](https://docs.pbs.org/space/MM/5343793/Assets). Individual assets can only be made more restrictive, not less restrictive.
- Click the **General Availability dropdown menu** next to the user type whose availability rules you want to modify (Figure 1.4).
- The Duration option shows only for viewers who have been assigned a Custom Time Frame. Click the **Duration dropdown menu** to assign a timeframe for which the assignment is valid (Figure 1.5). You can assign by days, weeks, months, and years.
> ⚠️ **An important note about assignments**

> ⚠️ **User types are listed in descending order from basic to advanced permissions. You cannot grant a "lesser" role more permissions than an advanced role. Each user type and permissions can only increase over the role above it. For instance, you cannot assign "Always Available" to Public users and assign "Not Available" to Passport users.**

## Relationships
The Producers and Distributors sections provide a place to keep track of all producers and distributors that are or have been associated with your show. This information is not mandatory and is mainly for your own record keeping. It will not appear in the [Media Manager API](https://docs.pbs.org/space/CDA/3047426/Media+Manager+API).
- Click the **Title dropdown menu** and click the** title of the producer or distributor** (Figure 1.1).
- In the Start Year and End Year textboxes, type the years that are applicable to this entry (Figure 1.2).
- If you need to delete an entry, click the trashcan icon next to the entry you want to remove (Figure 1.3).
- To add additional rows, click the blue Add Producer or Add Distributor button (Figure 1.4). If you need additional titles, please [submit a support ticket](http://digitalsupport.pbs.org/support/tickets/new) and list the titles you need.
- When you're finished, click **Save** (Figure 1.5).

## API Access

The API Access feature is designed to allow specific distributors (with a unique use case) the ability to manage which station API keys have read-only access to their shows. If PBS has not reached out to you about this feature, please disregard this tab. For those using this feature, view the steps below.
View a quick tutorial
- Click the** *****API Access***** tab** (Figure 1.1).
- All available, read-only, station API keys display in the Available select box on the left (Figure 1.2).
- Click a **station **and click the** right-facing arrows** to move a station from the *Available *list to the *Assigned *list on the right side (Figure 1.3).
- To move a station back to the *Available *list, click the** station name** and click the **left-facing arrows**.
- When finished, click **Save **(Figure 1.4).
