## Overview

Resize transform refers to the process where ITS dynamically adjusts an image to a requested size while retaining the original proportions and all original content. The width and height specified in the request define a bounding box that will constrain the original image **while preserving the original aspect ratio.**

> ⚠️ **Requesting a larger size than the original will result in compromised image quality.  Always resize to smaller dimensions. **

## Parameters

| **Parameter** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| resize | ITS will dynamically adjust an image to a requested size while retaining the entire image and its original proportions. |
| no-scale-up | Prevents the image from upscaling beyond its original aspect ratio. Upscaling can increase encoding and load time, and also distort the image.<br>Note: If the `avif` format transformation is also applied, upscaling is automatically prevented, as this can lead to encoding time-outs. |

## Ways to resize your image

ITS allows you to resize in three different ways:

1. [By width and height](https://docs.pbs.org/space/ITS/4423738)
2. [By height only](https://docs.pbs.org/space/ITS/4423725)
3. [By width only](https://docs.pbs.org/space/ITS/4423740)

## How to Prevent Upscaling

The `no-scale-up` option can be included with a resize transformation that will prevent the image from upscaling beyond its original aspect ratio. Upscaling can increase encoding and load time, and also distort the image.

Note: If the `avif` format transformation is also applied, upscaling is automatically prevented, as this can lead to encoding time-outs.

Examples of how an image URL can be constructed with the `no-scale-up` option:
