## First time users
If you are using Bento for the first time and do not currently have a Bento site set up, please [submit a support ticket](http://digitalsupport.pbs.org/support/tickets/new) to request a site setup. Include the following in your ticket:
- your site name
- your station call sign (for stations only)
- the type of site you are creating (station or producer)
- any integration requirements you need, such as [Media Manager](https://docs.pbs.org/space/MM/5341192/Media+Manager) [Learn more about Integrations](https://docs.pbs.org/space/B3/4751441/Setting+Up+Your+Site#Integrations)
## Overview
> ⚠️ **If you currently have a Bento site, your ****[Site Admin](https://pbs-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/B3/pages/4751446)**** can set up additional sites without contacting PBS.**
Once your site has been set up for you, you will receive an email from PBS with a link to your new site in the [Bento console](https://bento.pbs.org/console/dashboard). From there you can complete your site setup in the ***Site Settings*** section.
- To access the site settings section, click **Site Settings** located in the left navigation menu of the Bento [console](https://bento.pbs.org/console/sites/131/dashboard) (Figure 1).

## Site Settings
> ⚠️ **When you are ready to launch your Bento site (i.e.: go live), please ****[file a support ticket](http://digitalsupport.pbs.org/support/tickets/new)**** with the date you want your site to go live. **
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ **You cannot schedule a site to go live Friday through Sunday and holidays. Allow about a week from the day you make your request to your launch date.**** ****For example, if you want your site to go live on November 7, please submit your request by November 1.**** **
### Site information
Begin creating your Bento site by adding the following basic site information:

| **Domain Name** | This is how you want your URL to display in the address bar of a web browser. The part of the URL that is necessary for your site to work *in Bento* is appended in all lowercase letters at the end of the URL: *bento.pbs.org*.

| **Overwrite URL** | This is used for producer sites that are associated with PBS.org and represents how your site name should display in the URL in a browser.

| **Site Type** | This designates what type of site you are creating. Stations should select the station call letters and producers should select the show name from the dropdown menu. This is important since some [components](https://pbs-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/B3/pages/4751450) are available only to certain types of sites. This gives users access to all national and local Media Manager content associated with the station call letters. | WETA / Mercy Street |

| **Favicon** | Short for "favorite icon," a favicon is a small icon that displays in the upper right corner in browsers that support the feature and represents your station or show. The favicon can also display in browser history and next to the page's name in a browser bookmark list.

### Favicon
> ⚠️ **If you have used embed code to display your logo, please delete the code or embed component and use this favicon feature in the console.**
The Favicon feature displays a small icon, representing your station or show, in the upper right corner of browsers that support the feature. The favicon can also display in browser history and next to a page's name in a browser bookmark list. Your favicon file format must be JPG or PNG with a minimum size of 180 pixels wide by 180 pixels high.
Create your favicon and [add it to your filer folders](https://docs.pbs.org/space/B3/4751570/Filer+Folders#How-to-upload-a-file) before adding it to your site.
- Once you've added the favicon to your filer folders, from the [Site Settings](https://docs.pbs.org/space/B3/4751441/Setting+Up+Your+Site#Favicon) page, click** Filer** to select the graphic from your [filer folders](https://docs.pbs.org/space/B3/4751570/Filer+Folders) (Figure 1).

- From your filer folders, click the **favicon file** (Figure 2.1).
- Click** Add selected** (Figure 2.2).

- The favicon displays in a simulated browser tab on the page (Figure 3.1). This is how your favicon will display in a browser.
- When finished, click **Save** (Figure 3.2).

- To select a different graphic, click **Choose File** again and follow the instructions in Figure 2 (Figure 4.1).
- To delete the favicon, click the** trashcan icon** (Figure 4.2).
- After each action, save the page.

### Auto-generated pages
Auto-generated pages, referred to as [Specialty Pages](https://pbs-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/B3/pages/4751492) in the Bento console, are pages that are added by PBS and can appear on your site automatically. To display these pages on your site, click the toggle so it displays ON. To hide these pages, click the toggle so that it displays OFF. Examples of auto-generated pages are the search page and error pages such as 404 and 500. [Learn more about Specialty Pages](https://pbs-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/B3/pages/4751492)

### Blog Post Settings
Use the Blog Post Settings section to turn on the ability for users to scroll from one blog post to another without having to back out of the blog post.
> 📝 **This is a global setting, which means once you activate this feature, it is activated on all blog posts on your site.**

### Users
After you have requested a site setup, **Site Admins may add and assign Bento roles** to staff members who will be working on the site. Site Admins should notify their staff to first log in to the [Bento console](https://bento.pbs.org), [using their PBS account](https://docs.pbs.org/space/B3/4751452/How+to+Create+a+PBS+Account) to create a linked Bento account. Once users have created a Bento account, admins can add them to the site and assign them roles. After roles are assigned, the users can start adding content to the site.

#### How to add users (Site Admins only)
Adding users to your site can be done after your site has been set up.
- From the Site Settings screen, in the Users section, click **Assign Another User To This Site** (Figure 1.1).
> ℹ️ The search textbox in the upper right is used to search the list of users that have already been added (Figure 1.2). This feature cannot be used until you've added users.

- In the textbox, begin typing the **name of the user **you want to add (Figure 2.1). When the list of possible matches is generated, click the **user's name**.
- Click the **User Role dropdown menu** and click the **role you want to assign to this user** (Figure 2.2).
- If you have a long list of users that you've added to your site, use the search textbox in the upper right side to search the list of users (Figure 2.3).

- To delete a user, simply click the** trashcan icon** to the right of their name (Figure 3). The user will be deleted from your site but will remain in the list of available users in case you want to add them again. You must save the page to complete the deletion.

### Integrations

If you are a producer and are planning to implement the ****[Airdates component](https://pbs-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/B3/pages/4751478)**** on your site, please mention that in your ticket when requesting integrations.**

#### How to add an integration
> ⚠️ **Only Site Admins can add integrations.**
Once you've [requested API keys](http://digitalsupport.pbs.org/support/tickets/new), PBS populates the TV Listing Components and Media Manager. For SSO Client ID, input the OIDC Client ID provided by PBS during your onboarding process.
- In the API Keys section, click **New integration** (Figure 1).

- Click the** name of the integration** you want to add (Figure 2).

- When the fields display,** fill in the textboxes with the codes** that have been sent to you by PBS (Figure 3.1).
- When finished, click **Save** (Figure 3.2).

### Sitemap
> ⚠️ **Your Bento site must be published in order to view the sitemap link. If you click the sitemap link and get an error, publish your site and try again.**
A sitemap is an automatically generated record of all indexed pages on your Bento site. The sitemap automatically refreshes and reflects the most recently added pages of your site. Pages that you have hidden from indexing also show up on your sitemap. The hide from indexing feature is located in the *Advanced Settings* section of the page settings.
See it
- Click **Site Settings** on the left side of your Bento site (Figure 1.1).
- Click the **link** under *View this site's Sitemap* (Figure 1.2).

- The URL and last modified date of every page on your site is listed (Figure 2).

### SEO Settings
Add search engine optimization IDs to your site to improve your site's ranking in search results.

### Social Media Settings
Social Media settings enable social media outlets to access your blog pages.

- Website Plugins: Embed social feeds, comments, or like buttons on external websites.

- Ad Management: Link precise assets inside Meta Business Manager or run specific ad campaigns.
- Technical Support: Report bugs or request access fixes from Meta support. |
| X Username | Link your site to [X](http://x.com) (formerly Twitter). Add this to connect your Bento site with X so people can follow your site on X. |
| Disqus Shortname | Implement the [Disqus commenting](https://disqus.com/) feature on your site. Add this so people can have discussions about content on your site via the [Disqus Commenting component](https://docs.pbs.org/space/B3/4751649/Disqus). |
### Analytics Settings
Analytics settings enable the pages of your site to be tracked by [Google Analytics tracking tools](https://www.google.com/analytics/#?modal_active=none).
Important notes:
1. **PBS does not provide these settings. **Please refer to Google documentation to learn how to add your [GA4 ID](https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/12270356?hl=en).
2. **Not everything is in Bento.** Only the ID is set in Bento. All tags and other settings are added in the Google Tag Manager console.
3. **Do not use the *****Add Google Analytics ID***** field.** This is deprecated and no longer used.

- Click the ***Analytics IDs***** dropdown menu** and click** Add Google Analytics 4 ID** (Figure 1.1).
- Ignore the* Add Google Analytics ID* *(deprecated)* field. This is no longer being used.

- Type the **Google ID** that you got from Google in the textbox provided (Figure 2.1). This should begin with **G-** then a string of characters.
- When finished, click **Save** (Figure 2.2).

### Root directory
Use this section to add files to the root of your Bento site. Currently, this section accepts Google AdSense (ads.txt) files and Google Analytics (ads.txt) files. To learn more about Google AdSense and walk through the steps on how to create an ads.txt file, [click here](https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/7532444?hl=en).
- Click **Choose File** next to each type to select the files from your computer.

### Header embed code
Use the ***Add embedded script in the head of any bento page*** section to add any code that needs to be present in the HTML tag of your Bento site. Be sure to add the code with all relevant and mandatory tags and scripts. This is treated the same as if you were coding the section of an HTML page so you can add [anything that can go in the head section](https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_head.asp) of an HTML page. Below is an example.
### **Site publication and expiration**
> ⚠️ **Sites *****cannot***** be scheduled to go live Friday through Sunday or on holidays. **
Launching a Bento site is a coordinated effort between stations and PBS. All Bento site launch requests require a [Support Portal ticket](https://digitalsupport.pbs.org/support/tickets/new) and a planning period of two weeks. Site launches require the set-up of DNS and SSL certs that are coordinated with the PBS operations team. As soon as you have a desired launch date identified, [submit a ticket](https://digitalsupport.pbs.org/support/tickets/new) to get the process going.
When scheduling your pages to go live on a site that is not yet published, you may have to use a login and password to view the pages in a browser. To obtain the login/password, please [submit a support ticket](http://digitalsupport.pbs.org/support/tickets/new).
If it seems like your changes are lost, use the History drawer to access your page history and changes.
Where to find the History drawer
The History drawer can be viewed in the Pages section of your site. Click **Pages **from the left side navigation menu (Figure 1.1) then click **History **at the top of the screen (Figure 1.2).
## Google custom site search
If you are using the search feature in Bento and your site is not proxied, you must create a Google custom search account. Be sure the Google account you are using for this is not linked to one specific person in your organization. [Create a general email account ](https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/27441?hl=en)that everyone can log in to so that if someone leaves, the account can still be accessed.** Your Bento site must be published in order for Google to index your site.**
This section demonstrates how to create a Google custom site search for your Bento site.
How do I know if my site is proxied?
A proxied website will have "pbs.org" in the URL when being viewed in a browser. See the following examples for a proxied site and non-proxied site.

- Go to [https://cse.google.com/cse/create/new](https://cse.google.com/cse/create/new) and in the Sites to search textbox, type **your site URL** (Figure 1.1).
- The site url auto-populates in the Name of the search engine textbox (Figure 1.2). You do not need to worry about this.
- When finished, click **Create** (Figure 1.3).

- *That's it!* You are all set up and your site will be discoverable on Google searches (Figure 2).
