What are views per player?

You are able to track the number of video views by player type. The player type is recorded when the MediaStart event is triggered.  The different possible player types are:

  • Portal (includes national and local portals)
  • Partner Player
  • Viral Player
  • PBS iPhone App
  • PBS OTT Apps: FireTV and Apple TV 
  • PBS iPad App
  • PBS Android App
  • Media Manager-powered widgets

How to view tracking results for views by player

  • Log in to your Google Analytics account (Figure 1).

  • Your accounts are displayed along the left side of the screen. 
  • Locate the account you want to view and click the plus sign to expand the link.
  • Click the Event Tracking link (Figure 2).

  • On the left navigation menu, click Content (Figure 3.1).
  • Click Events (Figure 3.2).
  • Click Overview (Figure 3.3).
  • The Event Tracking Overview page displays.
  • Click Event Action (Figure 3.4).

  • Click MediaStart (Figure 4).

  • Click the Secondary dimension dropdown box.
  • Click Events.
  • Click Event Category to view list of videos by player (Figure 5).

  • The graph will display all the different Media Manager-powered players in which your video is playing and the number of views each player has received (Figure 6.1).
  • Click the Show rows dropdown menu to display more results (Figure 6.2).

(info) The main graph on this page does not represent all your video views; it represents all of the events in your account. Since certain actions can trigger multiple events or you may be tracking more than video events this graph is not an indicator of video views.

(plus) Click the Percentage button in the Views section to see the data a colorful pie-chart.

(warning) Your dashboard configuration is only visible to your login. If there are multiple users who all have access to the same producer account each user needs to add this report using their respective login.


You are also able to track the number of MediaLoad and MediaComplete events by player. Just select those actions instead of MediaStart from the Event Action column in Figure 4.
