General

  • Who at my station should be using this tool?TV Listings Manager is intended to be used by the person at your station who normally sends updates to Gracenote.
  • How many TV Listings Manager accounts can we have?
    • There is no limit to how many accounts you can have, however, we recommend you request accounts only for those who handle your listing data.
  • Where does PBS get its TV schedule data?
    • We get our data from Gracenote.
  • Does the TV Listings Manager follow the Calendar Day or Broadcast Day?
    • The TV Listings Manager follows the Calendar day which goes from midnight (12:00 am) to midnight (12:00 am), not the Broadcast day which goes from 6:00 am to 6:00 am. So an update that your TV department says is for August 2 at 1:00 am should be updated for August 3 at 1:00 am in the TV Listings Manager.
  • Is there a character limit for the show title?
    • No. Your show title can be as long as you like, however, depending on the length of the time slot in which it's placed, the entire title may only show up when a user hovers their mouse over the time slot.
  • Will I be able to tell if my TV schedule has an empty time slot?
    • Yes. An empty time slot will be represented by a blank tile with a dotted border. When you save your schedule and it contains an empty time slot, the TV Listings Manager will prompt you to approve or fix it.
  • How do I remove an empty time slot in my schedule?
  • Are schedule gaps allowed?

    • Yes. You can create an empty schedule gap, and will be prompted to confirm it before the changes are saved.

  • When a start or end time is modified, is the duration of the show automatically recalculated to reflect the new duration?
    • Yes.
  • Can show times overlap in the TV Listings Manager?
    • No. Overlapping times are not allowed in TV Listings Manager. So the start time of a show cannot overlap the end time of another show. Each show must have its own assigned window of time.
  • Do my changes automatically update in other tools and publications such as TV Guide?
    • Yes and No. Updates made in TV Listings Manager will be automatically delivered to Gracenote early the following morning, at 4AM ET. Unfortunately, TiVo (formerly Rovi) will not accept our automated updates, so you'll have to contact them directly if delivery to them is a requirement for you.
  • If I have the same listing on multiple channels, do I have to change each individual listing?
    • Yes. You must change each individual listing on each channel.
  • Does the timezone specified in the console reflect the timezone of my station?
    • Yes. Your station's timezone should appear automatically when your station is selected.
  • Can a listing be assigned any length of time?
    • A listing must be assigned a length of at least one (1) minute and no more than 24 hours.
  • Can I see the history of listing changes made for my station?
    • Not at this time, but we will be implementing history logging in a future release.

Saving and editing

  • Can I edit both national and local show titles?
  • Can I edit both national and local show descriptions?
  • Can I add a custom title and description?
    • Yes.
  • How can I search for an episode?
    • You can search for an episode by the episode number or by the episode title.
  • How do I save my changes?
  • How many hours ahead can I modify my show time?
    • The modification span for each listing is restricted to 24 hours and up to two weeks. Start or end times that are beyond the range of 24 hours will be invalid. You can edit within a 24 hour period, save your changes and go to the next 24 hour window to make edits. Learn more about modifying listing times
  • How long does it take for my changes to appear in the schedule?
    • On PBS.org, and station sites, your changes will show up within an hour. If you are using a Bento site, changes can take up to six (6) hours, but we are working to reduce that.
  • Do my changes automatically update in Gracenote's system?

    • No. At this time, Gracenote does not provide a method for us to deliver updates made in TV Listing Manager, so you must send the same updates to Gracenote. Remember that TV Listings Manager updates surface within PBS Digital products only.*

*  PBS Digital products include PBS.org, apps/OTT, PBS Airdates module, and the Bento TV Schedules and What's On components.

Timeshift

  • What is timeshift?
    • Timeshift is a feature that allows you to move multiple consecutive shows to a different time slot at one time. Before you move the chunk of multiple shows, you must first delete the show that is currently in the slot to which you want to move them. For instance, if you have a show listed from 9-10am and you want to move all of your shows that air from 10am-2pm to the 9am timeslot, you must first delete the show that airs from 9-10am. Then you can use the Timeshift feature to move the shows that currently air from 10am-2pm to the 9am timeslot. Learn more about Timeshift
  • Can I edit or delete shows while using the Timeshift feature?
    • No. Edit and delete are disabled while using the Timeshift feature.
  • How do I know I'm in Timeshift mode?
  • How do I select shows?
    • Simply click the listing box to select it. Once selected, the selected box will be outlined by a thick border, indicating that it has been selected.
  • How do I select multiple shows?

    • Click each show you want to select. If you click one show and want another that is two time slots away, the timeshift feature will select all shows in between. All shows must be in consecutive order (in other words, adjacent to each other).
